Elsis Work Club
A service for ELSIS students on a Student Visa or a Working Holiday Visa.
Studying at ELSIS is more than just a classroom experience. Many students gain a lot of useful experience outside of the school during their time in Sydney. This can be on organized social activities, socializing with your new international friend, or working.
Working while you study is a great way to meet people, practice your English and earn some money too.
ELSIS offers a service – ELSIS WORK CLUB – for students who would like help in getting ready to find work.
A few things to remember:
- English is not your first language, so you must be realistic about the kinds of jobs you can expect to get.
- Do not expect to earn a big salary! $12 - $25.
- If you are on a Student Visa you can only legally work 20 hours per week.
- If you are on a Working Holiday visa you can work full-time.
- If you are a on a Working Holiday visa you can work for one employer for up to 6 months.
- The less English you have the less choice you will have in jobs.
Typical jobs that you can find:
- Waiter / waitress in restaurants
- Coffee maker / assistant in cafes
- Hotel work / cleaning
- Night work in supermarkets
- Kitchen work in restaurants
- Farm work
- Nanny work with Australian families
- Office administration
How does the ELSIS WORK CLUB help students?
When you are new to Australia nothing is quite the same as in your own country. We are very sensitive to that and all staff at ELSIS help you to settle in to Australian life.
When it comes to work there are a number of things that you might need help with and that is why we off the ELSIS WORK CLUB. It offers you:
- Help with getting a tax file number.
- Individual sessions with counsellor to assess your best work options.
- Help with creating a professional CV in English.
- Information on jobs that are suitable for you – with your level of English.
