English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Course

Students who wish to enroll for EAP will have as their specific study objective to join a college or university for further study.

The focus of an EAP course to develope the skills areas in English which will be required to study alongside native speakers in mainstream course areas.

The courses run for 12 weeks and are assessment based. EAP courses run at intervals throughout the year. Course intakes are every six weeks.

EAP 1will meet English language requirements for colleges and other RTO private colleges offering VET (Vocational Training) courses. Students will need to reach a level consistent with 5.5 IELTS.

Students entering the EAP course at level 2 will be seeking a pass at IELTS 6.0+ in order to enter a tertiary course of their choice. Students graduating from this course will have a level consistent with their achieving a level in IELTS, which are at least 6 for graduates of EAP2.

EAP 3is a program especially for postgraduate students who wish to continue their study in Australia. It is anticipated that students who have successfully completed EAP3 and achieved a “B” Grade will satisfy the language requirements for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs where the currently entry is IELTS 6.5.

It is also anticipated that students who have successfully completed EAP 3 and achieved an “A” Grade will satisfy the English language requirements for postgraduate programs where the current entry is IELTS 7.0.

It is understood that successful completion of EAP 3 does not guarantee an applicant a place in a program, as admission to universities is dependent on the level of achievement in accordance with universities published program prerequisites.

EAP:

  • Helps you read and understand academic texts
  • Prepares you for the culture of a university or college
  • Shows you how to write an essay and report which is suitable for university or college in an English-speaking country
  • Shows you how to reference texts correctly and how not to plagiarise
  • Shows you how to give a successful presentation and how to conduct a follow-up discussion
  • Gives you the confidence to perform at college or university level

Classes

Classes run from Monday to Friday.

After lunch there there is usually a different teacher.

  • Lesson 1: 8:30 - 10:00
  • Break-time 10:00 – 10:30
  • Lesson 2: 10:30 – 12:00
  • Lunch: 12:00 - 1:00 lunch
  • Lesson 3: 1:00 - 2:15
On Friday Classes finish at 12:00 and there is always a student activity.
