This is a 12-week examination preparation course which prepares students for the internationally recognised International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examination.
The course includes authentic IELTS-style examinations which students take every 3 weeks of the course.
Successful results in the IELTS examination can lead to entry to Vocational or to University courses, as well as certain classes of Australian immigration visas. The IELTS examination tests students in four skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Results are given for each skill on a scale from 0 to 9 at steps of half a band, with 9 being the highest level, together with a similarly scaled overall score averaged from the four skills. Entry requirements for tertiary courses vary from course to course with Certificate and Diploma courses generally requiring a band level of 5.5 or 6, and university courses generally requiring 6.5 or above.
To enter this IELTS Preparation course students should have the following minimum English language levels:
IELTS result of 5.0 or
Successful completion of ELSIS General Intensive English at Intermediate level, or
Successful completion of ELSIS English for Academic Purposes (EAP) level 1, or
Satisfactory result in an ELICOS placement test
