What is ELICOS?

English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) are central to Australia’s international education sector. Students come from overseas to study the English language for a variety of reasons. Some need to improve their English for work or career purposes, some have a personal interest in becoming fluent in English, and some intend to travel. Others may want to continue their education in English, either in Australia or elsewhere, and need to develop the necessary language skills to undertake further study. The ELICOS Standards enhance our reputation as a provider of world-class international education and help attract high-quality international students to Australia.

As an international student on a student visa, you must study with an institution and in a course that is registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS). CRICOS registration guarantees that the course and the institution at which you study meet the high standards expected by international students.

ELSIS reports to the Department of Education and TEQSA (the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency) assesses ELICOS providers against the ESOL Act, the National code and the ELICOS National Standards.

We are members of English Australia which is the national peak body for the English language sector of international education in Australia.

Over 80% of international students learning English in Australia choose to study with an English Australia member college.
